International regulations

When working with hazardous materials several regulations need to be followed. The most important norms are briefly described below:

  1. the European agreement about the international transportation of hazardous goods on streets (ADR)
  2. the regulation for international transportation of hazardous goods by railways (RID)
  3. the international maritime hazardous goods code (IMDG-Code)
  4. the recommendations on the transport of hazardous goods of United Nations as well as
  5. the ICAO technical instructions for the safe transport of hazardous goods by air (ICAO-TI)

The Registration Evalutation Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH) is an EU-code that controls the registration of all chemicals used in the EU.

German regulations

The corresponding German regulations pertaining to packaging of hazardous goods during transport include:

The "Gefahrengutbeförderungsgesetz" (GBefGG) establishes fundamental requirements for packaging during the transportation of hazardous goods.

The "Gefahrengutverordnung Straße und Eisenbahn" (GGVSE), the "Gefahrengutverordnung See" (GGVSee) and the "Bekanntmachung und Erlaubnis zur Beförderung gefährlicher Güter im Luftverkehr durch Luftfahrtunternehmen" detail requirements for transportation of hazardous goods on streets, by train, by ship or by plane. Corresponding to these norms are the international regulations ADR, RID, IMDG-Code and ICAO-TI. These norms are basis for granting UN-numbers. All Roetzmeier Safety Transportation Containers have received the internationally accepted UN-number.

DIN EN 12798 certification confirms the existence of a quality management systems for the transportation of hazardous goods. This norm is for street transportation as well as for train- or inland water-transportation. Key aspects of an audit to confirm DIN EN 12798 compliance are mechanisms for protection against fire and explosion, transportation safety devices as well as training of employees.
